IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURES

What is an implant retained denture?

A removable denture attached to implants (titanium screws) that have been placed into the jawbone. These dentures are secure, long lasting and give the most amount of comfort and secure fit when eating, drinking and speaking.

What is involved in the process?

Step 1 – Consultation

A consultation is required with one of our experienced dentists. During this consultation, your bone level and suitability for the procedure is assessed, to confirm this with the most amount of accuracy a 3D scan (CBCT) of your jaw is taken.

You will receive a written treatment estimate following this appointment with all costs detailed, including the denture.

Step 2 – Implant Placement

At this visit implants will be placed in the required spaces that will later hold your denture/s on top.

You will have a level of discomfort following this procedure, however a full explanation of home care will be provided to you before you leave the clinic.

Once the implants have been placed, there is a period of 8-12 weeks of healing time before any further treatment is done.

8-12 weeks later

Step 3 – Review and uncovery

Once it has been confirmed that the implants have fused with the bone, the implants are exposed through the gum tissue and small abutments are placed either at that or a subsequent appointment.

These abutments assist with the retention of the final denture.

An impression of your mouth is taken and construction of the denture is started.

Step 4 – Denture construction

  1. Initial impression
  2. Bite registration – this will detail how you bite together so the denture/s are functional and comfortable.
  3. Try in of denture – a ‘mock up’ of your denture, to check the fit and aesthetics before this is finalised.
  4. Insert of finished denture!
