Frequently Asked Questions for a Missing Tooth

If you break or chip a tooth, rinse your mouth gently with warm water and try to keep any broken pieces safe to bring to your appointment. Call us immediately and we’ll prioritise you for a same-day emergency appointment. Avoid chewing on that side until treated.

Always hold the tooth by the crown (the chewing surface), never the root. Gently rinse it in milk or saline, not water and either place it back in the socket or store it in milk to keep it moist. Then call us straight away.

That’s okay. Keeping it moist is the most important step. Place it in a small container of milk or saline and bring it with you to your appointment. Avoid wrapping it in tissues or letting it dry out, as this reduces the chance of saving it.
