Periodental Disease

What is Periodontal Disease?

  • Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a bacterial infection affecting the gums and supporting structures of your teeth.
  • It is primarily caused by plaque buildup, poor oral hygiene, smoking, genetic factors, and certain health conditions like diabetes.
  • Symptoms include bleeding gums, bad breath, gum inflammation, and loose teeth.
  • If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to irreversible gum damage and tooth loss.

What is the Treatment for Periodontal Disease?

If periodontal disease is diagnosed, Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) may be required. This involves:

  • Removing plaque and tartar buildup below the gum line to prevent further infection.
  • Prescribing antibiotics or medicated rinses to help control bacteria.
  • Follow-up visits to monitor your healing and prevent disease progression.

Post-Treatment Care

  • After your periodontal deep clean, follow specific aftercare instruction such as pain management, soft diet recommendations, and proper oral hygiene.
  • Attending follow-up appointments is essential for long-term gum health.
