Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics is the treatment of teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, not to mention that most people would like a beautiful smile, and having straight teeth certainly contributes to one’s aesthetic appearance.

Teeth that are crooked can also be at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and can also cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that may lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain.

Some of the benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that are more likely to last a lifetime.

Our Orthodontic specialist Dr. Jasmine Guliani will guide you through your options. At Dental One we are able to accommodate simple cases, but in the event of more complex cases, we may refer you to an orthodontist.

Orthodontic Treatment: How does it work?

Orthodontic appliances, both fixed and removable, are used to help move teeth, retrain muscles and affect the growth of the jaws. These appliances work by placing gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws.

You may be a candidate for Invisalign (invisible braces) or you may need traditional braces, your dentist will be able to guide and advise you as to what will work in your specific case.

Some of the following dental conditions may be treated with Orthodontic treatment:

Where the upper front teeth are too far forward (protrude) over the lower teeth
Sometimes compared to a “bulldog” appearance where the lower teeth are too far forward, or the upper teeth are too far back
When the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally
Space between the biting surfaces of the front and/or the side teeth when the back teeth bite together
When the centre of your upper front teeth do not line up with the centre of your lower front teeth
Spaces, or gaps, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that perhaps due to their size do not “fill up” the mouth
When there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate
