Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics is the treatment of teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, not to mention that most people would like a beautiful smile, and having straight teeth certainly contributes to one’s aesthetic appearance.

Teeth that are crooked can also be at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and can also cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that may lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain.

Some of the benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that are more likely to last a lifetime.

Our Orthodontic specialist Dr. Jasmine Guliani will guide you through your options. At Dental One we are able to accommodate simple cases, but in the event of more complex cases, we may refer you to an orthodontist.

Orthodontic Treatment: How does it work?

Orthodontic appliances, both fixed and removable, are used to help move teeth, retrain muscles and affect the growth of the jaws. These appliances work by placing gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws.

You may be a candidate for Invisalign (invisible braces) or you may need traditional braces, your dentist will be able to guide and advise you as to what will work in your specific case.

Some of the following dental conditions may be treated with Orthodontic treatment:

Where the upper front teeth are too far forward (protrude) over the lower teeth
Sometimes compared to a “bulldog” appearance where the lower teeth are too far forward, or the upper teeth are too far back
When the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally
Space between the biting surfaces of the front and/or the side teeth when the back teeth bite together
When the centre of your upper front teeth do not line up with the centre of your lower front teeth
Spaces, or gaps, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that perhaps due to their size do not “fill up” the mouth
When there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate

Your Orthodontic Process

Step 1
Orthodontic Consult

15 minutes

At this appointment we will provide you a treatment plan including orthodontic & non-orthodontic options. We will require an OPG X-Ray of the whole mouth ($50) for diagnosis We will advise if you require a referral to see an orthodontist.

If your case is suitable then you would also be required to take a special x-ray called a lateral ceph at a radiology clinic (normally $200-300)

Step 2
Records

30 minutes
$300

After all imaging has been completed your dentist will take impressions and measurements of your mouth to generate a diagnostic model. The case plan from this model will be prepared and usually takes 1 month from the day of appointment.

The codes charged on this day will be for a diagnostic model, an intraoral photographic record and an extraoral photographic record.

Step 3
Results

15 minute consultation
$1200 deposit

Once your case plan has been created we will call you to discuss the next steps. In some cases we will place separators between teeth to create gaps and in others we can proceed straight to banding the teeth.

If you decide to proceed with your case you will be required to pay a deposit. Our friendly treatment coordinators will discuss all the details with you at that time.

Step 4
Braces & Banding

60 minutes

Your bands will arrive approximately 2 weeks after your deposit is paid.

Placement of band and braces is 60 minutes (both arches). You may require a separators appointment a week before this.
