When and where do you place fissure sealants?
Usually these are placed when the first adult molar tooth is erupted, around 6 years old. A second set of adult molars usually erupt around 12- 13 years old, and often these will have sealants placed as well.

How long do fissure sealants last, and do they need to be replaced?
We would only replace a fissure sealant once it wore away if the fissures in the teeth were deep enough that regular cleaning could be difficult, and a risk of decay is present. In the case of children, when we place fissure sealant, we’re hopeful they stay in place for a number of years to allow for the teeth to fully erupt, and for a good oral hygiene routine to be established.
